City Councillors:
'The streetprayer groups are doing a wonderful job in bringing people together, and celebrating what we have as a community. I was privileged to be invited to a prayer breakfast a few months ago and was struck by the warmth and peace of the meeting. As a local councillor, building strong communities is something I am passionate about. The prayer breakfasts draw people together as neighbours and build up a sense of belonging in a spiritual way beyond  religious denomination or politics. I hope that they will continue to grow and thrive'. Mary Clarkson, Lord Mayor of Oxford 2009/10

"The streetprayer groups are doing a great job of bringing people together from different churches in community to pray for their areas. In a day when too few people know their neighbours they are also helping to maintain the community spirit in New Marston. It was a pleasure to attend one of the meetings earlier in the year. Councillor Beverley Hazell

At the first launch in September 2007:
“I have been living on Edgeway Road for 10+ years. All this time I did not feel a sense of belonging to or purpose for the street where I live. The prayer breakfast has opened up a door through which I have not only shared a meal with my neighbours but also prayer and conversation on matters that concern each individual.”  Evan Roberts, student

“As a visiting student from America, I had a lot on my mind when I arrived in Oxford, like “Would I make friends?” During my first week, a time when I was feeling very much alone in a strange country, I saw a flyer for the Edgeway Rd. Prayer Breakfast. I started going to the meetings which led to me making some wonderful friendships. It was great being able to greet my neighbours when I saw them on the street."  Emma Hughes, American student

“Travelling out of the area to work meant I didn't know many of my neighbours, unless it was through the school. It has been lovely to get to know people who live 'down the road' and share a meal and pray together.”  Clare Leal

“I only started coming to the prayer breakfast in Edgeway road 2 months ago. I was surprised by the open, welcoming atmosphere. These were people with a heart for their community, people that wanted to put their faith into practice, break the anonymity amongst the residents in their street. I am so intrigued by the idea that I want to start the same prayer initiative where I live - in Ferry Road.”  Jan Sassenberg, charity worker

"I'm 83 now and getting around is more difficult. Meeting people on the street and singing praises together has been such a joy."  Phyllis Merriman, pensioner

Big Breakfast Day 2010:
"Today is the first Big Breakfast event. For me it's wonderful to be part of something that I know that God wants. To see Christians in all areas meet together and know who our neighbours are, and who our fellow Christians are." Jason Luff, student

It's marvellous! Two or three people, ten or twenty, it will be wonderful because God is going to be here amongst us."  Mark Macau

"It's a really good opportunity that we have as Christians to be together as one Church." Veronica Rodriguez, Argentine student

"I never really used to say hello to that many neighbours, except for my immediate ones, but now I know lots of people on the street." Stephen Roberts, Meteorologist

"I live on my own. I love people and company. I also like singing hymns, so I enjoy it very much. I'm very pleased they knocked on my door that morning" Phyllis Merriman, pensioner

"Streetprayer is important to me because it's all about building community, and community with God as the centre" Lorna Smith, Chemistry lecturer.

"We've seen people coming along who maybe haven't been to church for a very long time, and have been able to reconnect with other Christians through the prayer breakfasts." Dave Leal, Theology and Philosophy lecturer.
